Fuk Luk Sau, Chinese Three Wise Men

Fuk Luk Sau Chinese Three Wise Men – Symbols of Fortune, Prosperity and Longevity

Some decorative pieces are chosen for their appearance; others carry a story that makes them even more meaningful. Fuk Luk Sau, the Chinese Three Wise Men, brings together three traditional figures associated with fortune, prosperity and longevity.

Also known as Fu Lu Shou or the Three Star Gods, these figures are part of Chinese cultural and spiritual symbolism. Displayed together, they represent three wishes that have resonated across generations: a fortunate life, prosperity and a long life.

Meet the Three Wise Men

Each figure represents a distinct blessing within traditional Chinese symbolism:

• Fuk (Fu) – Fortune and Happiness: Associated with good fortune, blessings and happiness. He is often depicted holding a scroll or a child.
• Luk (Lu) – Prosperity and Status: Connected with prosperity, success, influence and recognition. He is traditionally positioned in the centre.
• Sau (Shou) – Longevity: Represents long life and longevity. He is often portrayed as an elderly figure with a high forehead, a staff and a peach.

Together, the trio is traditionally associated with happiness, prosperity and longevity. These meanings belong to cultural and Feng Shui traditions rather than being guarantees of material or personal outcomes.

Traditional Feng Shui Display

Within traditional Feng Shui practice, the Three Wise Men are commonly displayed together in a row:

• Place Fuk on the left.
• Place Luk in the centre.
• Place Sau on the right.

The existing HIH product guidance recommends displaying them on a table in the living room or dining area, facing into the room rather than towards the front door.

Whether you follow these traditional placement suggestions or simply appreciate the symbolism, the trio makes a meaningful addition to a home display.
